MATTHEW ARNOLD

CONDUCTING
my PHILOSOPHY.
My approach to conducting begins with the belief that a conductor’s role is to create the conditions in which musicians can do their best work. Clear technique, thorough preparation, and a strong understanding of the score are essential, but conducting is ultimately about communication—between conductor and ensemble, between the musicians themselves, and between the music and the audience.
I strive to balance precision with flexibility, giving an ensemble a clear sense of direction while allowing space for individual artistry and spontaneity. Whether working with a professional orchestra, chorus, or community ensemble, my goal is to build trust, encourage attentive listening, and create performances that feel unified, expressive, and alive.
Above all, I believe great performances come from collaboration. The conductor may shape the larger vision, but the music belongs to everyone on the stage.
